Celebrating Wayne County’s Canal Communities

Thanks For Supporting 2012 Autumn on the Erie!

Thanks for supporting 2012 Autumn on the Erie!

Thank you all for supporting the 2012 Autumn on the ErieAutumn on the Erie – a volunteer group whose goal is to introduce to visitors and residents  the wonderful communities along and surrounding the Erie Canal in Wayne County.   It was 187 years ago that the Erie Canal began shipping goods from Buffalo to Albany then on to NYC and their  final destination in Europe.  Our villages, towns and cities grew and prospered because of The Erie Canal.  Now these communities offer a home to our families and a vital part of our lives.

This year businesses, museums and village offices contributed enough items to have five (5) complimentary gift baskets.  The baskets were placed in each of the communities of Macedon, Palmyra, Newark, Lyons & Clyde.  Visitors and residents entered the drawing  with the winners being announced  at the Lyons Pumpkin Palazzo event held at the end of October. Each basket offered gifts representing  each of the communities and businesses.  The winners of the baskets are: Phil McGrain, Karin Jagger, Carl Decker, Deb Habeck & Judy Abbott.  Thank you all – Hope you enjoy your gifts and the Erie Canal Communities of Wayne County.  Above is a photo of Phil McGrain receiving his gift basket at Tom Wahl’s,  Newark where Phil filled out his ticket.

All along the Erie Canal exceptional museums tell our history, small shops offer unique items and specialized service.  A variety of activities provide entertainment, healthy fun and family events.  Before you head off to all the shopping areas that surround us enjoy the local flare.  Visit a neighboring village and walk down their Main Street and explore their shops and restaurants.  You will be surprised at what you will find.

November 24th was dedicated as the “Shop Local” Saturday BUT you can shop local every day.  Take advantage of what is right around the corner. Although  Autumn on the Erie has passed for 2012, I hope that you take the opportunity to discover what is along the Erie Canal and stop in often to shop and dine.

The Autumn on the Erie volunteers  would like to thank all who contributed to the five (5) gift baskets and to all the communities who joined together to make this year our best year yet.  We would like to extend an invitation to all to join us in January to begin planning for 2013 Autumn on the Erie. You can reach volunteers at BooksEtc., Macedon at 585-474-4116.

Welcome to Autumn On The Erie 2012

The Erie Canal offers a multitude of fun and interesting experiences and one of the best keep secrets along the Erie Canal is Wayne County.  There are five (5) villages situated on the banks of the Erie Canal, Clyde, Lyons, Newark, Palmyra & Macedon.  Each of these communities are excited to welcome visitors to their shops, eateries, events & festivals and their Erie Canal parks.

Businesses – museums & community members of these villages have joined together to spread the word that the Erie Canal offers great things all year round BUT that Autumn On The Erie is especially beautiful and that there is a lot of activity going on.  2012 is the 4th year of Autumn On The Erie and we are excited to share it with everyone.  Below is a listing of events and we will be featuring one of these events as we get our blog up and running for 2012. There is something for everyone.

Autumn on the Erie 20122011 basket

September 1 thru October 31

It’s planning time again for Autumn on the Erie 2012. This is the 4th year of Autumn on the Erie and we are hoping to see more folks out visiting our communities. There are new communities joining Autumn on the Erie this year so watch for more events and activities to help us all celebrate the fall season.

We hope to be able to repeat the complemtary drawing for the gift basket again this. Last year the winner was very excited about all of the wonderful gifts from businesses and museums he got to experience. Volunteers will be at several festivals and parades during the summer to remind everyone that there is a lot of activity going on along the Erie Canal in Wayne County during September & October.

This grassroots organization is designed to encourage visitors and residents to experience our communities. To tell them about the great shops there are, restaurants to dine in, museums to learn about our past and fun events to enjoy during the Autumn season. If you would like to learn more about Autumn on the Erie you can contact John at Books Etc. books_etc@yahoo.com  or Joan at Western Erie Canal Alliance westernerie@gmail.com .The next meeting is March 29, 10:00AM at the Alling Coverlet Museum, 122 William St., Palmyra – you are always welcome to join us!

We will be posting the 2012 events soon!
